Fr Mike and Brad Smercina will be performing in a fundraising 1950's Murder Mystery Dinner Theater for CASA on March 11, 2023, at 6 pm at the Ten Fifty Eight Event Center. Every year in Erie County, hundreds of children become victims of abuse and neglect.
CASA volunteers are trained men and women who commit their time and efforts to ensure that every abused and neglected child is provided "a powerful voice in court." Several Erie County children are removed from their homes through no fault of their own and placed with a family member or in a certified foster home. Ultimately their future is decided by a judge. In order to make an informed decision, the judge relies on a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer to provide the court with very vital information regarding a child's unique circumstances. If you are a caring, patient, objective adult who is concerned about the welfare of children and who is not afraid to get involved in emotional issues - CASA needs you. To become a CASA volunteer or to obtain more information regarding our pre-service trainings, please call 419-621-0324 or email [email protected]. As an appointed officer of the court, the CASA volunteer gathers critical information from as many sources as possible. They review records; interview parents, relatives, health care providers, teachers, and most importantly the child. The CASA volunteer then develops a written court report which includes fact-based recommendations focusing on the child's "best interest." |
